Library of University College of Ratmalana was established in 2014. Since its establishment, it has been an integral part of the professional development of all its users, supporting the vision and mission of the University College. The main role of the library is to provide a suitable environment and to facilitate a variety of resources in multiple formats which enhance teaching, learning and research activities of the University College. The library caters to over 300 readers, including both students and the staff of the University College. The seating capacity of the library is approximately 30. It provides library clients with quality services and access to information in a learning environment which provides equitable access to library services for all clients.

The Main Library possesses a collection covering a vast area of knowledge in Electrical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Telecommunication Technology, Economics, Management, Television Studies, Fashion Design Technology, Information and Communication Technology, magazines, daily newspapers, and novels. At present, the library collection encompasses over 2,500 books pertaining to various subject disciplines. The library is maintaining several book collections including lending, permanent reference, reference and an extra reading collection providing increased learning and training opportunities for both staff and students. The service has been extended with a past paper collection and course-related CD collection.

General Guidelines

All the circulation activities are performed at the Main Counter of the Library. All books with PR (Permanent Reference) spine labels are not available for students on loan. Books with EXR (Extra Reading), R (Reference) and L (Lending) spine labels may be checked out for outside use for all members. The borrower of any library items is fully responsible for that item until it is returned to the library

Rules and Regulations

  • It is required to produce library cards along with the Collage Record Book or Identity Card at the time of check-out of library materials.
  • Borrowers are responsible for the prompt return in good condition of all materials borrowed.
  • Lending items may be renewed by bringing in the item and asking the library staff to renew it.
  • Items which have reservation or past due dates, will not be renewed.
  • Fines will be added for overdue items as follows

  • In case of misplacement of membership card – Rs.500.00 will charge per card.
  • If any borrowed item is lost must report immediately to the library staff and will be charged the cost of replacement of the items with applicable chargers (Current cost of item, Department chargers (25%), Overdue Chargers (If any) and other chargers).
  • Borrowers have other option by replacing the item from same or latest edition of the lost item with the applicable chargers (Department chargers (being revised), Overdue Chargers (If any) and other chargers).
